Deadreckoning

Somewhere in the dark water sits a fleet you cannot see; call your shots, read the misses, and sink it before it sinks you.

Deadreckoning is a free naval strategy game you play inside ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. A hidden-fleet naval duel against an AI whose layout is sealed and verifiable. For solo play, about 20–30m a session, it needs no signup — open it in your assistant, or paste one link, and play.

How to start

  1. Open your AI. Start a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. No paid plan required.
  2. Paste the duel starter. The AI seals its fleet layout and shows you the hash before the first salvo.
  3. Trade salvos. Call coordinates, read the pattern of hits and misses, and corner the hidden fleet.
  4. Verify the seal. After the duel, check the revealed layout against the hash to confirm it never moved.

Questions

What stops the AI from moving its ships when I get close?
The AI fixes its fleet at the start and commits to it with a SHA-256 hash it shows you before the first shot. It answers hits and misses from that locked layout, and you verify the hash after the duel to prove nothing moved.
How long does a duel take?
Twenty to thirty minutes for a single duel. You and the AI alternate salvos on a shared grid, and the game ends when one fleet is sunk. It is short enough to replay a few rounds and long enough to plan a hunt.
Can I play it on my phone?
Yes. It runs entirely in a chat with ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, so any device that opens one of those works. There is no app to install and no account beyond the chat itself.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes, it is rated all ages. The theme is naval strategy, deduction and grid tactics with no graphic content. Younger players get a clean logic duel, and the sealed-layout twist adds a fairness angle older players tend to appreciate.
