How to start

  1. Open your AI. Start a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. No paid plan required.
  2. Load chapter one. Paste the opening chapter's starter prompt. The AI boots Ironquill and sets your company at the tower's severed base.
  3. Climb the spire. Describe what your climber does. The AI narrates, rolls in the open — code dice or the pre-rolled tape — and voices the lift-crews, the Guild, and whatever circles in the cloud.
  4. Save between chapters. Take a save code at each chapter's end. Paste it to continue with your company and choices intact.

Questions

How long is the campaign?
Chapter 1 is available now and runs about 90 to 180 minutes. It is the first of a planned three-chapter campaign; Chapters 2 and 3 are not out yet. Each chapter is a self-contained climb through one tier of the tower, and a save code at the end of Chapter 1 will carry your company and their choices into the next chapter when it releases.
Do I need to play The Toll at Blackbridge first?
No. The Severed Spire stands alone and teaches what you need as you climb. Blackbridge is a shorter tutorial for the same Ironquill system, so it is a gentle warm-up, but it is not required.
Can I play the whole thing solo?
Yes. Built for one or two players, the campaign runs solo with the AI as game master handling every character but yours. With two players you share a company and split the tower's decisions between you.
What carries between chapters?
Your characters, their injuries, gear, and the choices you made. A save code at the end of each chapter encodes that state; paste it to begin the next chapter, in the same AI or a different one, with your history intact.
