The game card is the entire game — every scene, rule and answer, about 11k characters. Paste it when your assistant can't browse the web. The Skill installs The Toll at Blackbridge into Claude on any plan: download it, then turn on code execution under Settings → Capabilities and add it at Customize → Skills → + → Upload a skill.
How to start
- Open your AI. Start a new chat in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. Any of the three works, and you do not need a paid plan.
- Paste the starter. Copy the Blackbridge starter prompt from its game page and send it. The AI boots the Ironquill rules and sets the scene at the bridge's toll house.
- Play your character. Describe what you do. The AI narrates outcomes, calls for dice off the pre-rolled tape, and plays the tollkeeper and townsfolk.
- Save when you stop. Ask for a save code before you close the chat. Paste it into any AI later to pick the night back up.
Questions
- Do I need to install anything to play?
- No. Paste the starter prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini and it runs, with no signup, download, or account beyond the chat app you already use. A pre-rolled dice tape and save codes keep everything inside the conversation.
- What is Ironquill?
- Ironquill is our original tabletop role-playing system, built to be run by an AI game master. Blackbridge is where you learn it: the game master explains each rule the first time the night calls for it, and never again.
- Can I play solo?
- Yes. Solo, you take one of three pregenerated characters — a whisper, a warden, or an archivist — and the AI plays Old Maundry, the queue behind you, and a town with gaps in its memory. With two, you take one each and split the night's decisions. Either way the AI narrates and rolls, but never speaks for your character.
- What does the tollkeeper take as payment?
- Memories, and the card treats them as things you carry: on a failed roll Maundry lifts one and you strike a line off your character — the item goes, and whatever you knew that came with it. You can reach the gate emptied out and still settle the bridge's debt, but the memories you still hold at the end are half your score.
12+ — memory loss as a mechanic, a girl drowned as a toll in the town's past, and a player character who can drown.
